TUSCALOOSA, Ala. δΈ€ ReUnited, United Way of West Alabama’s retiree-led leadership society, is hosting a Dogtoberfest Pet Parade at Capitol Park benefiting local animal support programs. The Dogtoberfest Parade is a partnership with Christ Episcopal Church’s annual pet blessing service that will follow the parade.
The Dogtoberfest Pet Parade will be held on October 2 at 4 P.M., with the pet blessing service to follow at 5:30 P.M. The parade will feature a costume contest, judged by ReUnited members. Prize categories for pets will include “most fabulous,” “Mr. or Ms. Congeniality” and “most spunky.”
The Clergy from Christ Church, the Rev. Paul Pradat and Rev. Emily Rowell Brown, will bless pets at the conclusion of the parade for those that are interested. Participants are also invited to stay for Christ Church’s annual Blessing of the Pets in celebration of the feast day of St Francis of Assisi which will begin at 5:30.
Events Schedule:
4 P.M. Registration/Judging
4:45 P.M. Parade around Capitol Park
5:30 P.M. Pet blessing service
ReUnited Chair John Humber said about the event, “We all love and are so proud of our four-legged friends. ReUnited is hosting the Dogtoberfest Parade as an opportunity to promote United Way’s new retiree organization and celebrate our little ones who do not talk back to us. We encourage all to stay for the pet blessing service as well, but folks may choose to participate in either the parade or pet blessing without feeling obligated to engage in both.”
Cash or in-kind donations are encouraged to benefit Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter. For more information, contact Jacob Crawford.
