Read for the Record

What is Read for the Record?

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is the largest shared reading experience in the world, celebrating children’s early language and social-emotional development. Each year, Read for the Record brings together millions of adults and children who read the same book on the same day, building a reading community that spans ages and cultures.

Last year, 19,465 readers came together across our nine counties. This year, we're aiming to hit 20,000. Help us spread the joy of reading throughout West Alabama by signing up for Read for the Record.

What is this year's book?

Nigel and the Moon, written by Antwan Eady and illustrated by Gracey Zhang

This year, we're reading Nigel and the Moon, written by Antwan Eady and illustrated by Gracey Zhang.

Nigel and the Moon is about a young boy who dreams big but is too scared to share his dreams with the world. Instead, he tells his dreams of becoming an astronaut, dancer and superhero to the moon. As his class moves through career week, Nigel’s community helps him build up confidence in who he is. Nigel and the Moon encourages children to celebrate where they come from, who they are, and who they want to be.

This fall, Success By 6 invites you to meet Nigel, his loving family and his supportive community. Join us as we honor diversity, celebrate where we come from and uplift essential workers in our communities.
