2022 Kickoff & Campaign Luncheon

United Way of West Alabama pledges $4,375,000 in 2022

On August 9, 2022, United Way of West Alabama (UWWA) held its annual Kickoff & Campaign Luncheon, announcing a campaign goal of over $4 million. This year's kickoff was particularly special, as it was the UWWA's first in-person campaign launch in three years.

Last year, UWWA surpassed its $4,175,000 goal, topping its previous fundraising record in 2019. This year, the organization aims to grow again, announcing a campaign goal of $4,375,000.

"In anticipation of the great need our community faces, we increased our goal," said Jackie Wuska, CEO. "We know it's going to be hard, but we're hoping everybody can do something to make a difference."

Recently, UWWA became the fastest growing United Way in Alabama, offering new services, expanding its reach and onboarding four new potential agencies.

Wash, Read, Repeat, the organization's newest program, opened two Little Laundromat Library Learning Zones in 2022. To date, over 360 families have been served through weekly story times and parent workshops.

They also launched FreeWill this year, a program which allows community members to create living Wills for free.

By raising their fundraising goal, UWWA hopes to grow these programs and launch others in the coming year.
